Making Scented Candles – Getting the Best Results

Candles with a fragrance really are something special. Their uniqueness draws people to making scented candles. Honestly, making them is pretty easy. You just need to follow a few simple steps to make sure the candles you make turn out the way you want.

What makes a quality scented candle? Generally, you do not want the scent to be too light or too strong.

Probably the easiest way to include scents in a candle is to add fragrance oils to the wax. Fragrance oils gel effectively with candle wax which is why they are such a perfect ingredient. Also, fragrance oils burn evenly with the wax. This means they will give off the right scent when you light the candles.

Some may add perfume to the wax when making scented candles. This can be a reliable way to create a fragrance. Just be sure that the perfume you select is one that is appropriate for scented candle. Some brands of perfume are better than others and it is best to stick with perfumes that won’t make the candles smell too strong.

However, there are some candle makers that think the more scent they add, the better the result will be but this might not be the best way to go about things. Look at it this way: someone that pours a ton of perfume or cologne on himself, the scent would certainly be tough to miss. The problem is that such a strong smell of cologne could border on the offensive! In all seriousness, you want to take it easy on the amount of fragrance you add. So, as a rule of thumb, go easy on the amount of scent you add to the candle wax.

It may take a little trial and error to end up with the finished scent you are happy with but once you get the hang of it, it’s actually not that hard. Who knows?
