There is a lot to be said for being able to skillfully administer a full body massage. Even if you don’t want to make this a profession, which incidentally is extremely lucrative, you could use it as a tool to help rid your partner or any family members of all sorts of aches and tensions. There is a proper procedure to a full body massage, and if done well, it certainly qualifies as an art.
You should begin by creating a very appropriate mood for a massage. Keep the room temperature normal and comfortable. If you can, you should also light some candles and incense, while playing soft music in the background. If the person you are going to massage has issues with modesty, then you should keep a clean and soft towel handy. You will also need oil to help the massage go easier. Any natural or baby oil will do, but if it is lightly scented it might be appreciated more.
The person being massaged will have to disrobe and lie down on the table, face down. If required, you could cover the bare buttocks with a towel kept expressly for this purpose.
You have to start the body massage with the upper torso. Place about a spoonful of oil in your palm and then rub your palms together to warm it, remembering to replenish it frequently. Apply it to the side of the neck and working up towards the temples. The muscles of the shoulder and neck should also be massaged in light but firm upward strokes. Since people tend to store tension in the muscles of the neck and shoulders this is very important. The shoulders and shoulder blades have to be rubbed in circular motions.
Next, you should focus on the backbone area, rubbing it gently in circular outward motions. Knead the sides of the body gently but firmly, working your way up to the armpits and then the shoulders. Reverse the direction and work backwards so that you can give full coverage to the back. Work your hands from the shoulders to the hands of the subject, rubbing the triceps and the biceps. You should even knead the palm and each individual finger.
You can apply more pressure when you work on the lower back, using your thumbs and fingers in regular outward circular motions. Massage the sides of the body and the buttocks also. Massage each leg with circular motions all the way down to the toes.
Start working upwards again; lightly massaging the sides of the body with your fingertips and arriving at the collarbone. Massage the side of the neck gently, and finish the full body massage by rubbing the jawbone and the area below the ears with your thumbs.
This deep tissue massage is sure to stimulate the central nervous system of the subject and release feelings of wellbeing. If you feel that you are good at this you could even work towards getting a massage therapy diploma. There are many massage schools where you can pick up many massage therapy techniques.
