20 Ways to Improve Your Health and Stay Healthy

Healthy living is achievable and sustainable as well; though there are several factors that could militate against your health, getting the right information/knowledge and applying them to your life would help you enjoy a life devoid of illnesses or diseases.

There are tips that you could apply to your life if you wish to stay healthy at all times and keep away from being bombarded by microorganism from the outside and sometimes from within. These tips would also help you stay away from harmful health practices that could endanger your wellbeing even in the absence of microorganisms.

1. Eat balanced diet: Taking a diet that contains the right nutrients in their right proportions would help keep your body fit and healthy at all times.
2. Eat lot of fruits and vegetables: They build up your immune system and strengthen your resistance against invasion by microorganisms.
3. Eat foods rich in fibres e.g. Cereals, nuts, etc: These would help keep your digestive system healthy, and minimize the incidence of constipation and colon cancer.
4. Drink up to 1,500 – 3,000mls of water daily: Water provides a medium for your body’s metabolism. It helps to rid the body of toxins; and also helps to maintain the body’s temperature.
5. Take a glass of water first thing on waking up in the morning. It helps to flush your system.
6. Wash your fruits and vegetables before eating: This helps to prevent diarrhea, dysentery and intestinal worm infestation.
7. Cover your foods to avoid contamination especially by houseflies. Cockroaches, etc.
8. Cook your food properly before consumption: This would kill the eggs of worms, and also destroy bacterial cysts in the food.
9. Chew your food properly before you swallow: It would aid proper digestion of your food and reduce the workload of the digestive system.
10. Do not eat foods that are showing sign of spoilage: They could infect you with germs and give you diseases.
11. Reheat your food if left for several hours before eating: This helps to destroy any Bacterium that could grow in the food e.g. Staphylococcus, shigella, salmonella, etc
12. Do not store cooked food under raw foods in the same refrigerator or freezer: The raw foods could contaminate the cooked ones and give you troubles.
13. Do not over heat your oil before use. Overheating makes it toxic and dangerous.
14. Do not drink cold water immediately after eating extremely hot food. It cracks your teeth.
15. Minimise consumption of sweets/sugar; they provide a medium for bacteria to grow and destroy your teeth.
16. Consume less alcohol: Alcohol could over work your liver if taken in excess. They could also cause hepatitis and liver cirrhosis if taken for a long time.
17. Reduce or completely stop smoking cigarette: It contains lots of toxic chemicals that could destroy your health. It could cause cancer of the lips, lungs; premature birth, etc.
18. Minimize coffee intake. Too much coffee can raise your blood pressure.
19. Do not do drugs: It can affect your physical, social and mental life negatively and destroy your dreams.
20. Control your weight. Too much weight can make you become prone to Diabetes mellitus, hypertension and heart disease.

The way you treat your health determines whether you enjoy a state of wellbeing or whether you keep suffering from diseases infections. Take good care of your life and you will definitely enjoy optimum health.
